I know many Bust halves have "old" cleanings but what are your opinions on this one? The toning on this makes me think it has been cleaned. Also, the outlines and the area around the 7 to 8 o'clock position on the obverse make me think it has been cleaned or dipped. Any opinions? Thanks!

Thank you! This is actually a coin at a local dealer. I'm really trying to educate myself on cleaned coins. Right now I wouldn't spend the amount of money they are charging for this coin. I feel like I don't know enough yet to drop large amounts on individual coins. The dealer doesn't have it and a few other coins listed as cleaned that look like they have been. If a dealer doesn't list a coin as cleaned that has been and you know it, does it make you hesitant to buy from or trust them?

I would say cleaned at some point...that odd coloring around the starts usually indicates a cleaning.

Thank you. That's what I was thinking. Around the stars and the outline around lady liberty made me think that too. I've read uneven toning can be mistaken for cleaning but I didn't think that was the case here.
