Holy schmokes, eh?!! => what is stevex6 up to this time?!! (has he lost his mind?!!) ... ummm, please don't answer that!! CAROLINGIANS. Charles le Chauve (the Bald). As Charles II, King of West Francia, AR Denar 840-877 AD Diameter: 20 mm Weight: 1.56 grams Obverse: Without mint signature (Orléans). + CΛRLVS REX FR, cross pattée with pellet in each quarter Reverse: XPISTIΛNΛ RELIGIO, temple Reference: Coupland, Early group D, pl. 23, 43-7; M&G 1159; MEC 1, 846-9 Other: 6h … attractively toned
This is my first coin from this century!! 840-877 AD ... I thought the coin had a very nice, sweet and simple design, yes?
Ummm, nobody wants to toss-out a comment, good, or bad? => I can take it (well, unless you're mean and then I'd be sad) ... just jokes => please "Bring it"
Steve a little out of your collecting realm...buttttttt. very nice interesting coin w/ great history..one thing, these guys would call a guy bald, it would also mean they had white hair...very cool..
I guess I'm bald too since I'm landless. What's the toning look like on a coin like that? Nice coin btw. No animals though
Design wise its a bit boring. Ive seen this kind before, somewhere. But I like the toning it has of the silver.
Sadly, I can't answer your question, for I don't have the coin-in-hand, yet (hopefully I'll remember to keep you updated, once it arrives) ... ... ummm, I'm pretty sure that there is an "ocelot" hiding in the temple?
Mat => thanks for your frank comments (I love honesty) ... not sure where you've seen other examples, but here is a link that Batman gave to me, which shows similar examples: http://www.mcsearch.info/search.html?search=charles chauve temple&view_mode=1&en=1&de=1&fr=1&it=1&es=1&ol=1&sort=&c=&a=&l=#0
Ask chris *medoraman*, one reason I cant get into Chinese cash coins is their look. I think they're the most boring coins around and even their history doesnt get me excited for them. I need figures, animals, structures *like roman temples* or something. Just letters, writing, squiggly lines I dont get excited for. Different strokes for different folks... *Goes back to looking at his pretty dead ladies*
ahaha => well, you know that we "usually" have similar tastes ... oh and I admit that I am certainly "out there" buying this coin!! (yeeeehaaa!!) => but yah, hmmm, there must be some sort of "primal crap" goin' on, for this coin is definitely drawing me in, big-time!! ... but again=> thanks for your honesty and your comments (oh, and more than that => thank God you weren't bidding against me!!)
Great coin! Remember some of us don't sit at home waiting for new postings so allow a few hours for lavish praise when you post nice coins. Your next step is a Charlemagne, please.
=> yeeesssssssss!!! I'm sorry, but I love it when I nail a coin that you find worthy!!!! (it's kinda like bonus-points!!) ... as far as the ol' Charlemagne goes, I'll have to check with the amazing Mrs. stevex6!!
That's exactly the kind of stuff I would like to start my french series with (a "monogram'd" Charlemagne would do the job, of course...) Well done my friend Q
Thanks Cucumbor!! ... hmmm, I am now very curious to find out a bit more about these Charlemagne coins!!
