I am new here, so please forgive me if this is in the wrong place. But can someone tell me what robots are. Thank you in advance, Suninjune
I'm assuming that they are similar to spiders, which are basically placed by search engines and meta tags/links to identify information within the website.
Here is a good explanation and a good place for those who want to write their own search robots. A little out of date, but general use. Most are using Linux to program and operate . http://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/200x/2003/12/03/Robots
Thank you both for the information. I do not use computers that much so I thought robots were unique to this site.
In simple English, they are rodents infesting into web to snooping and gathering our personal daily habits on web and use it as marketing strategies for corporations' maximum profits.
Yeah, like enabling me to find esoteric subjects on the web. These "rodents" are the only way that I could have ever hoped to become an ancient coin collector, since most of the knowledge was not easily found in Iowa 20 years ago. Please try to not interject your political "black or white", "right or wrong" views on a complex subject. Yes, robots can be used to snoop and drive targeted marketing, but they also allow every single search engine in the world to function. Don't like it? Stop using every single search engine and simply GUESS where pertinent information might be located.
It's just a sarcasm remark from a guy who have IT degree. Forgive me for giving a vivid image of robots' darkside. Yes, it has many good benefits as google is my best friend and I have been notice ads has been using robots because we can notice most website's ads being displayed from links that we previous visited. I will reduce my sarcasm.
