I have been coin roll hunting for over a year now and I love it. I mostly go for Half Dollars and Nickels but I tried my hand at pennies this past week and I'm hooked. I never knew looking for errors (and occasionally finding some) was so fun.

Over the past year, I have accumulated nearly 300 40% half dollars from Coin Roll Hunting. My credit union in town (where I have most of my money and have taken a car loan and a mortgage) is very helpful in ordering boxes of coins for me (anywhere from 3-9 boxes per week depending on what I request).

Last week, I found a seller who had five ASE coins (1994, 1995, 2009, 2011 and 2013) that I needed to fill holes in my ASE Dansco folder. They were all UNC condition and he wanted 40% half dollars for trade. We negotiated for a while but settled on 57 40% halves. I sent out the coins last week and received the ASE coins today. Amazing and beautiful looking.

I know that some of you probably think that I paid too much in silver melt value for these five coins. However, to me, I only spent $28.50 of my own money on the 57 40% halves so I am satisfied with the transaction.

Coin Roll Hunting is not only a hobby that I thoroughly enjoy but it is helping me cheaply complete my coin collection. Thank you to CoinTalk and all the members for getting me started, helping me learn and keeping me inspired to continue to search.

Nice job on the nearly 300 40%. Do you keep track of how many boxes you have gone through to get that 300?

How many 90% halves have you found?

I like your logic !!!!! You have fun looking through the coins then trade for something you really wanted . Nice job .

Yes, I have tediously kept track of all boxes and results.

As of today (day #281 of 2013), I have searched:
98 Nickel Boxes (found 66 Wars)
15 Dime Boxes (found 8 silvers)
6 Quarter Boxes (found 1 silver)
    146 Half Dollar boxes (found 332 silvers [297x40%, 35x90%])

All in all, at this point, I have searched 265 boxes or 391,037 coins or $88,951 worth of coins. I have found 407 silver coins (about 61 ozs of silver) and am averaging 1.53 per box.

My average is much higher for strictly half dollars (2.27 per box). However, 93 of my 146 have been skunks (64%) while 53 have had at least one silver half (36%). If a box has silver, I am averaging 6.26 per box. Feast or famine for me.

Convert the value of the 40%ers to their AG value. Then look at how much you paid for the ASE's. i've personnaly gotten ASE's at facevalue right at the bank.

Wow now that is a serious score, how many did you get? Did the teller give you a story behind how they got them?

Yes, so far I'm up to 5. At two random banks, they were sitting right in the teller's tray on each occasion. the others some tellas saved them for me at different banks.
