Mother Of All Contests Framework

I made the edit. You are running 1 contest, with 10 or 12 different parts and 1 prize - not 10 or 12 different contests each with a prize. By keeping everything in 1 thread then all of the contestants, and you, can keep track of the entire contest.

And I merged your explanation of the contest into this thread too. It makes no sense to explain the rules of the contest in 1 thread, and then hold the contest in a completely separate thread. The rules need to be in the same thread as the contest.

And no, we are not going to play bookkeeper for you and try to keep track of all this. You can keep it all in 1 thread and the problem is solved.

as usual you understand nothing that I post. there are 12 different contests with different rules leading to one prize. it is NOT possible to have all the different contests in one thread. no one asked you or anyone else to keep score, so please don't make assumptions. you are creating a problem where none exists by using your authority in an arbitrary manner.

there is a big difference between a contest framework and rules. I don't expect you to understand but at least don't play spoilsport. if you don't want to let this contest run then come out and say so instead of wrecking it like this. there were no rules absolutely none mentioned in the contest sticky that a contest cannot have parts and it is logical for different parts to be in different threads. if you are then going to suddenly decide that you don't like it so you will change it then its not fair.

Post a coin and we have to tell you the type of coin what year they started striking it when they stopped striking it and the name of the designer of the obverse and reverse

Thanks for the contest spock1k. My suggestion for a round would be to have the contestants post a picture of a design/picture they create using only money. You could decide if only coins can be used or if paper money and medals are allowed, if you want to limit the number of items used, size of the design, etc. I don't believe anything like this has been done on this site before and I think it could be a creative way to showcase some of the great pieces the members here have and it could also be a good opportunity for newer members to gain exposure to coins they have never seen before. Either you could choose the winner or go by the number of likes each picture receives.

I'm going to have to agree that this seems a little strange. I mean, a similar example would be the guess the grade run by rlm. Are we going to see those merged since they are just the same thread with different parts?

Find a year with a lot of re-punched mintmarks, find a RPM and have us attribute it (1958 has over 50 RPMs recorded).

    My suggestion:
Write a paragraph (or even essay since the prize is so big) on the topic of a single coin. Contestants can detail the history, any varieties, why they like(or don't like) the coin, or any of the many many topics in numismatics. If the OP decides to he can choose the topic.

PS. Let me take a moment to just say, THANKS FOR THE CONTEST!! and THANK YOU to jaceravone as well!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... I think pattern coins are not seen or discussed enough so have the contestants post a picture of their most favorite pattern coin and you pick the top three choices. Contestants like in this cannot post more than once and cannot duplicate another poster.

I think it would be interesting to have the participants write a paragraph explaining why they started this great hobby. "What got you into coins?"

I suggest taking a pic of a coin and then distort its features with photoshop and have people identify as much of the coin as possible (or even multiple pics of coins). Grading 1pt for each feature identified...just guessing "penny" would be 1 pt....guessing "penny heads up" would be 2 pts....guessing "penny, heads up, dated after 1958" could be 3 pts...etc. Could also use this suggestion and take a picture and place coins within the picture using photoshop and pts per coin identified.

Maybe for a quick and random point everyone can get, you can do a coin toss for one of the rounds and have people guess whether it would be heads or tails.

Here's my suggestion and I expect 3 points for this even though I don't plan to participate due to my numismatic non-expertise.

Run 10 different contests in different threads as you planned. Give a prize of a genuine 1990 US quarter valued at $.25 for each contest. Per GDJMSP's posts this should be perfectly within the rules and cause no problems.

Then accumulate the results of the different contests to give the prize you were planning on.

    Everyone should then be happy.

    Suggestion:

A cogent essay, of any length (you decide the length, eg 500 words) about an area of numismatics that they (the submitter) enjoys. It should be educational to the membership.

How about asking for a poem, limerick, rhyme, haiku..the subject of which is the coin (or what?) that you will suggest. Points for poems..

I have this game I like to play, when it comes to music. "What's the name of this song?" then "What band sings it?" then "Who's the lead singer?" and so on and so forth. I'm sure there's a way you could tie something similar into the contest for numismatics - each partial answer would build on the previous part until you had a very finite, specific answer. Answer one, 1 point, answer two, 2 points, etc. Example - what coin is this (country and denomination)? When was it designed? Who designed it? What does the obverse represent? The reverse?

Whatever you do, I'd say there has to be something creative about each of the contest sections to make it more than just a "scavenger hunt" or "guess the grade."
