State $2 Bills

Discussion in 'Paper Money' started by William DeBerry, Oct 5, 2013.

  1. Can someone give me a link to some info on the $2 Bills with the states on them? I got one the other day and have decided I would like to get some more, but I can't find that much info on them... did they print them for all 5o states?.. or are they in the process and releasing a few at a time like they did with the State Quarters program? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

As the linked thread notes, these "state" bills aren't printed that way by the government. Some private company gets stacks of $2 bills from a bank and applies a sticker/overlay with the state designs. As long as the sticker is removable, they're not violating laws against defacing currency.

Most collectors view these as undesirable altered notes, not nifty collectibles. Of course, you're free to collect anything you like, but you should be aware that unless market preferences change substantially, the resale value of these notes is fairly certain to be right around $2 each.

  5. WHEW!! Glad I only paid $2 for mine. Those are just like the one I have, mine is for my state, Tennessee. I got $50 in 2's from the bank just to go through real quick, not that much in to paper currency, and it was in the stack of 50. I had never seen anything like it and started wondering when I couldn't find anything online about them, so figured I would come here. Thanks for the info.
