2005 mis-mark nickle or ??

    Ok just got this nickel from the store and noticed it was missing most of the front. the back looks fine. can anyone tell me a little about it and why its this way? Any value? 001.jpg

    It looks weakly struck on the obverse. Possibly through grease.

    i finally bought a Loupe. You can see the indention near the cheekbone but not the hair. you can see the neckline but not the lines on the cloths. you can see the L in liberty easily and you can see cursive writing but can not make it out. lastly i can feel the rim on the back but not on the front.

    I'm sorry but I still can't be of much help from the image. I would have to see in minute detail if there is any evidence of work done to the rim area and the parts of the coin with the detail missing.

    The reason I can't just jump in and call it an error is that I have several quarters that I found in a roll where almost every quarter was deliberately damaged in some way. Some had holes, some had lead soldered on them, some were bent and several were polished in such a way that they looked very much like your nickel.

    It doesn't have the characteristics of one that has been struck through grease so I'm stumped at this point.

    With no evidence of even a proto rim from the upset, I'm thinking it's PMD.
