yeah thats why there pretty common but that coupled with thermaldynamic effects might explain why it might happen after alot of extreme ware(as they say)/friction/heat build up towards the end of a long run. Most coins dont show this but alot do have similar effects wich could mean thermaldynamic effects do play a role in this feature becuase it doesnt always mimick the device of the obverse sometimes its just a slight depression near the edge of the coin wich makes me this thermaldynamics has a role in this and i bet if you ask a mint worker they might tell you some coins do come out of the press pretty hot.
