I have been looking at my collection and came accross something unusual, I have a George III Irish Half penny 1775 and noticed that the 'S' in 'Georgius' is back to front!!!

I have looked in various books but i can't find anything like it...

    Has anyone else found this?
Ant Help would be greatly received
    Thanks

Krause shows three varieties of George III 1/2d copper, with different busts, but all three pictures have the "S" properly oriented, and there is no mention of varieties. 1775 is the type 3 "long hair" and is listed at $5-475 depending on grade. The highest value is for a proof coin.

While such a variety for the coin you mention may not be known - varieties with an inverted or reversed letter are known for other coins - but they are not very common. It could be that what you have is a genuine variety - but an unknown one.

I might suggest contacting Spinks by email and sending them a pic of the coin - see what they have to say.
