heres a site for trail die http://coins.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=...tt=13&bt=7&bts=7&zu=http://www.traildies.com/
this one looks like plate shift doubling and fits in the group called MD. I'm thinking that one of the things that could cause this plate shift doubling is because the copper plating was not attached to the planchet very well before being struck. this probably allowed the plating to try to excape the recessed areas of the coin die and started stretching.
As Jody said, I think that this one is all related to plating disturbances. I see no evidence of die trails.
No trails. The plating disturbances are very evident on this coin. There is MD as well as movement of the plating as the coin was struck.
