Rev: CONSECRATION / S-C, eagle with spread wings on globe, facing, head left
Ref: RIC 654 (Commodus) seller's attribution; I'm not sure, may be RIC 656?

Wolf + twins, Emperor, Roma and Captive

Diameter: 25 mm
Weight: 5.5 grams
Obverse: IMP C MAXENTIVS P F AVG, laureate head
Reverse: CONSERV - VRB SVAE, Roma seated facing, head left, within tetrastyle temple with wolf and twins in pediment, Victories as acroteria; holding globe and sceptre and presenting globe to Maxentius, captive seated between
AQG= Aquileia

Maesa, Julia, sestertius (another new one from yesterday's show). This coin has no patina and little wear but was either flatly struck or scraped (brick cleaned by an archaeologist???) leaving ugly scrapes on the high parts. The portrait die is excellent with a world class double chin. The color makes me wonder if this coin spent time in water (mud at the bottom of a river?).
