I have a 2008 New Mexico State Quarter that has some odd raised areas around the state on the reverse. I am new to coin collecting and was unsure what this could be. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. New Mexico Quarter 1.jpg New Mexico Quarter 2.jpg New Mexico Quarter 3.jpg

If you're referring to the area within the boundaries of the state, it's supposed to be that way. It is essentially a relief map, showing the various elevations of the state.

    Keep up the hunt.

I am wondering about the area just outside the state lines.

Could that be delamination if I am not mistaken on the outside of the state?

Are you talking about the east end of the northern border? I'm not sure what that is. A better pic (straight on, not from an angle) might show more.

I really don't have a great camera, but this is the best one I could take straight forward.

it is die chips . a few tiny pieces have been chipped of the coin die and left small voids. then when the coin dies struck the planchets the voids filled in with coin metal.

I have this quarter with the same reverse issue, but mine also has the strong obverse die clash on the neck area. Wouldn't that mean the OPs coin should be the same?

It would be impossible to say for sure that your coin and the op's coin came from the same dies without checking them for die markers. If your coin has clash marks on the obv. side it probably will have die clash marks on the rev. side
