I have this stunning 1964 Kennedy Half and curious as to what your thoughts are as to what it may grade at? My amateur eye says could be MS64, maybe higher? Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated since I have about 1700 of these in pretty similar condition.

MS62, maybe 63 - nasty bag marks, especially on the cheek & ear. I'd pass on any price over melt.

I'd say 63 , but basically it would have to grade a lot higher to be worth anything more than bullion . The '64 Kennedy unless it's an wanted error is basically just bullion anyway .
Now if it graded 67 or had some beautiful toning it would be worth something .

I would say MS62. I can't see it being any higher due to bag marks on cheek and whatever that black stuff is below the bust. Beyond that, there are at least two finger prints etched into the obverse. That basically kills eye appeal.

Part of me wants to even say AU58/60 due to what I'm seeing as wear at a glance on the reverse.

Basically I grabbed one from the 1700 I took in today. I now see the bag marks and fingerprints. As I started to look at these close with a 10x loupe I am finding lots with zero bag marks or scuffs or smudges of any kind. I have about 50 so far with no marks or scratches. I have about 80 with lead scratches than this one and I'm only through about 400 of them. Gonna be fun to search the rest. May be some 67's or better in here!

There are some varieties of the '64-D worth some good money even in MS-63 and goes up to around $400 in MS-67 , most of these are repunched MM and the doubled D is quite evident . If you like errors and repunched MM and varieties you should check out CONECA , the error collectors club , membership is cheap and you'll learn a lot . I'd really be hunting for those repunched MM .Good hunting .

Are those marks , that look like smudges on the coin . Also if you could turn the pics the right way . It's kinda hard with them sideways . But they do look to be a better grade .

Its not a proof as far as I can tell, the proofs have a slightly higher luster it seems, it is incredibly shiny though....im going to send a few in to Anacs for grading, cheaper than PCGS and gives me a good idea.

Don't be in a big rush. With as many as you have you can have a lot of fun learning to grade them. It's great to have so many to compare against each other.

Those with rub (breaks in the luster) will probably grade in the AU range.
Those with a lot of contact marks but no rub will me in the low MS grades.
Those with few marks, with great luster will probably grade 64 and up.

You might want to look at some of the images on Ebay of higher grade ones to help get an idea of what 65 or better should look like. Good luck and have fun.
