I have a Jos. Mcburney cigarbox maufr token out of Albany, NY. It states it can be redeemed at 26 Mulberry St. i was curious if it is a desired coin and what the selling value could be. The pic below is the exact coin. Thanks for the help.
I can tell ya this much is Mulberry st still there. I was born in Albany Ny and grew up in Catskill Ny a 25 mile south of Albany.had a Military School on that st I went to and lived at . It could be a bit older than civil war. I am not a token expert . Seen a few rare ones that just pop up.
Thanks for the information. very interesting stuff. I'm certainly not a coin collector, so finding any info about it is difficult. I'm not sure where to begin to assign a value to it.
Your token is listed in the Fuld's Civil War storecard reference as NY10c-1a yankeecoin. It's copper (or should be) and is rated as an R-3 or rarity-3. This means that there are estimated to be between 500 and 2,000 examples known which makes it pretty common. I would estimate the value at 20 or 30 dollars. The valuation is just a guess but should be pretty close. Though not rare, a nice historic token nevertheless. Bruce
Kanzinger's 2002 book lists the value of your token at $13 in F/VF and $17 in XF. That is the most current price guide available. But, Civil War tokens are fairly hot at the moment, so I would agree with Bruce's estimate.
