... Just wondering what everyone else thinks about the amount of circulated error coins still out there to be found.. And if Collector's and banks have put a hurt in the chances of ever finding true Coin error's in our time's now.

If you include O/Cs, RPMs, OMMs, MADs, improper alloys, etc...
    I'd say billions.
I find them all the time. Even a split after strke planchet last summer.

what about those errors which have been documented and noticed as valuable? is that count still in the billions you believe?

I'd say there are still valuable error/variety coins out there for two reasons:

    1) Sheer numbers combined with relatively few people dedicated to their retrieval.

    2) Sometimes little Johnny gets into Grandpa's coins and spends them. Or maybe Johnny is much older, and not related to Grandpa, and still "acquires" Grandpa's coins. That's the only reason I can see finding modern 90% silver proof halves in bank rolls...so I would assume the same would be true for errors and varieties.

Just asking thats all.. and i thank you for the imput.. Cause i was wondering about how people can be so simple minded to ever, Ever, and i stand by saying EVER being in possession of something 90% and trying to put it in a cola machine.. i have watched and laughed. And actually made off with quite a few piece's of nice silver coin because of this.. " Oh, the machine isn't taking your coin? Perhaps its the coin itself??" When in all actuality it is the coin itself being the security features those machines have.. sad but true.. Sue me. =)

Very low-to-no value minor errors and varieties are somewhat common to find in circulation, while highly valuable coins are not common, and for good reason. If profit is your goal, picking is likely to be more productive than searching, especially if digging through countless circulated modern coins is not your idea of a good time.

With all due respect, sir, is it not just as simple minded to assume that everyone knows and/or cares about the metal content of coins? To most people, coins are money; nothing less and nothing more.

When one laughs at another person for being unfamiliar, it would be wise for them to remember that there are areas in which they too are unfamiliar, and to think of how they would feel to be laughed at over their perceived ignorance.

Some errors will not roll cleanly, you would be better of finding errors in bags of coins. I think it would be hard to find an off-center error in a roll.

Most here are hobbyists, so I am unsure of what point you're trying to make.

It may help if the OP were to clarify exactly what type of "errors" he's asking about.

That site lists only a dozen or two of THOUSANDS of die varieties to be found in pocket change. Most of the ones listed there are fairly rare. Some aren't even recognized, for instance anything listed as "no VDB" can be found on pretty much any other date in the series. Some have been debunked, such as the 1980 D/S, which the sites says worth up to $200...simply not true. Some values are also skewed on that site. They say a 1992-D close AM in AU goes for $125, whereas the real value is $1000-$2000.

I would recommend the following sites to read about errors and varieties:
    lincolncentresource.com
    errorvariety.com
    doubleddie.com
    error-ref.com

thank you very much for being patient with me. I'm learning. And enjoy the thrill of the chase to find something unique in coin's like these.

Thank you. "Varieties" would have been the proper term to use.

As for the list itself, it is poor and essentially worthless. If your plan is to dig through change, your best bet is to first learn how to properly identify the different variety types instead of trying to follow any list. The sites Simon suggested can be very informative, so if you take your time to read and learn before searching, it should make your efforts that much more fulfilling.

And to answer your original question; yes... varieties can be found in circulation.

what is your major concern here with me Pal? frankly i am sick of it. And was just trying to post something i was interested in knowing about. Without your mindless attempt to "One-up" not only my perspective yet the views and input others have offered me. Why drag this out and make me feel this way?

Excuse me? If you did not understand my post, perhaps you should have asked for an explanation instead of jumping to a ridiculous and emotional conclusion. Nothing I said throughout this thread was intended to make you feel “this” or any other way: you asked questions to which I opined – nothing less, and nothing more.

If you’re not interested in learning a better term for this type of “error”, and want to continue using a very poor website as your reference, that's fine. If you wish to place yourself on a pedestal of superiority and laugh at the so-called “simpleminded” for not knowing or caring about coins, be my guest. However, if you’re going to make accusations of a “mindless attempt to one-up” you, at least have the decency to understand what you’re saying.

    MINDLESS:

: having or showing no ability to think, feel, respond
: showing no use of intelligence or thought: having no purpose
: requiring very little attention or thought

If you’re unable to accept honest, yet to the point responses, suggestions and/or advice without feeling somehow victimized, I am truly sorry, sir.

Oh, and good luck with your new hobby, “pal”.
