The wheats appear to be almost wear free, the is wear on the highest point of the cheek and the hair above the ear and the edge of the bowtie has the slightest bit of wear. I don't have a nicer early 40s cent to compare it to know exactly what's suppose to be there and what does not, but I'm assuming these dies are simplier to the late 30s dies and that's where I'm getting my reference points from. By definition, the only spot any wear can be present is on the highest point of the jaw and a slight wear on the tips of the stalks. With the blemishes and the bit of extra wear, could this coin be considered AU55+ or am I missing something or have some facts mixed up? Thanks everyone Clutchy
A little too much wear on the cheekbone/beard IMO...I'm thinking high XF low AU to be honest, but I'm having trouble picking up color in the pics, and that might be throwing my grade off...
Its a full brown tone with the corrison blemishes. I did glare it a bit to bring out the details a bit. Is the finish of the coin influencing the XF/AU grade more or the wear or both? Thanks Simon.
