Attached below are photos of a new coin taken by a new lens. Please guess the grade that PCGS assigned to the coin, and by all means your thoughts (both good and bad!) on the coin are welcomed.

Bonus points for whoever can guess what lens the photo was taken with. :)

    Have fun...Mike

Okay, I'd call it a Good obv/ AG reverse, so an AG.
Too much wear on the reverse for a good.
    So........PCGS said a G-4?

How's G-6? The color is very pretty. A beautiful example of a circulated large cent.

G-4 is what I think it should be graded.

I grade it AG but think that PCGS put a G4 on it.

I would G-4. All the letters on the revers are readable.

    Obverse G-6, reverse AG-3. I think PCGS said G-4.

    Grading

I'm new here,It's good to see members who know and hone their skills with respect to coin grading. Off hand I'd say that it's an AG-3 . Rg222

think i would give it a g4 (tho no grading guide in hand)...don't the grading services weight a grade close or better than 60/40 obverse, or am i misinformed? by the way...very nice pictures! some photos i have seen, especially on ebay, seem to have an odd appearance.(the coin's color seems strange....) thank you all for posting photos and commenting. i appreciate the education.

Thanks to all those who provided their comments and grade guesses. Looks like this coin didn't fool many of you...

PCGS graded the coin G 4. Here's the image I puchased the coin from:

Here are my subjective thoughts on the coin:

A good example of a split grade coin -- probably a bit higher graded on the obverse, and a bit lower on the reverse. Even the toughest EAC grader would probably grade this coin AG-3, and many would agree with PCGS in the G-4 grade. The edge bump is a bit disconcerting, but considering the grade, it is not all that problematic. Personally, I grade the coin G6/AG03 sharpness net G4. These coins are quite hard to find this nice in this low of a grade, and I would guess that I looked through literally thousands of them before I found the right one for my 7070. Most are severly corroded, recolored, or worse.

Considering just how tough these coins are to find in non-corroded state and still looking nice, these coins are a good value -- this coin cost me $83.50 on eBay and I spent quite a bit more than the going rate to win it. Of all the US coins under $100, this may be the toughest one to find in a nice, original state, as I'm sure my fellow-7070 collectors can attest to.

Have fun & Happy New Years!!!...Mike

p.s. the coin was photographed using a new (used!) lens just purchased as a present over the holidays -- a Nikon 200mm f/4 Micro.
