this 1868 shie ld nickel has the reverse of 1868 with the highest star on the reverse pointing towards the letters ES. i could not find an online price guide for this variety. any ideas about how much it is worth?
Not much of a premium in my opinion - I would not pay a premium for it myself. What I find more interesting is this looks like the missing leaf variety.
PS - I have no clue how to price this variety. I think one in worse shape than yours was listed for $29 and did not sell.
thanks for the reply. the missing leaf variety has the reverse of 67, this coin has the reverse of 68. i guess this coin is probably only worth a few dollars.
Well my 1868 missing leaf is the reverse of 1867. It looks like from a glance your 1868 is the same obverse as mine - the cracks look the same. I am not sure what all reverses were used with the 1868 missing leaf variety.
