Thought this was a fun coin. It's been a really long time but I probably bought it because of the crack. Anyone know the variety? I understand the crack has nothing to do with the variety. Please give me your thoughts.

Not sure what exactly is on the reverse, but looks like active verdigris. might want to neutralize it before it spreads. Not sure of the variety, but it's a very nice looking and clean looking LC.

Interesting coin. Would want to see it in hand, but looks like an n27 to me, an r4 variety. Date position looks right, lines up slight to left from curl to bun. On reverse there looks like two lumps on top right of the n in one, and a point up from the right base of t in cent.

Like I said, always a challenge to do these from pictures, and 1851 has a lot of possibilities, but that's my best guess.oh, and the " crack" through the m looks like a lamination.

Yeah I agree it looks like a lamination error.

Though both a lamination and a cracked planchet can often look similar to each other, there is a distinct difference. I gotta go with Larry, that's a cracked planchet. But the crack does not run vertically straight down through the planchet, but instead at an angle.

Probably not worth the fees but it would be nice to have it in some type of hard plastic holder.

it would be worth grading if he can get the lamination error on it, to me its worth grading regardless

In that condition the coin is only worth a little more than it would cost to slab it. And it should be put in a Details or Genuine slab if it was submitted.

Just a good holder is a much better choice.
