Now I am old and I can't say this is for sure correct, but I seem to see a difference between the final price of what I buy on E-bay and what Paypal charges me on my account. Most times less than a dollar difference, but the difference is not minimal after adding the amounts up. Has anyone else checked their account to see if this is happening ? Possibly my bookeeping is not as good as I thought ? Dave
thats because PayPal also charges a fee oops nvm mis-read if youre buying stuff i dont see why its costing extra
There should not be any differences when you are BUYING something. PayPal only charges a fee when you receive funds (unless you send money as a gift).
It shouldn't be charging you fee's for buying something if it is I would contact Paypal and try to find out why. Although you lead with your old and not being sure it's correct so maybe double check before calling Paypal lol.
Paypal will charge the buyer a fee if one of the following situations occur: 1) Gift from CC. 2) Cross border payment/transfer. 3) Foreign currency. For 2 & 3, if you live in the US and buy from Canada a lot, you should open up an account with Capital One (or another bank that doesn't charge conversion/cross-border fees). The official Mastercard/Visa exchange rate is always better than the rate posted by Paypal. If your bank doesn't charge you a cross-border fee, then it's cheaper to opt for Mastercard/Visa to convert the amount than Paypal.
I am under the impression the E-Bay final cost & Paypal cost should be the same, which it is in most cases, However here are some examples, Ebay 139.21 - Paypal 140.00, Ebay 7.60 - Paypal 8.32, Ebay 35.21 - Paypal 35.58, Ebay 63.00 - Paypal 64.00, Ebay 44.25 - Paypal 44.99.
I would check the show all transactions option in paypal to see If there are any fees, or click on the details for anything that is different than you expected and it will show anything that is added on their side. If it only shows one amount it should match your invoice from ebay, if it doesn't I would check the details in ebay to see if they are sneaking something in there too.
From the buyer side there really should not be any surprises, the total on the invoice should be the final total. From the seller side...ugh, lol,
Well, Good for all of you who don't have a problem. You have answered my question by checking your own accounts. I guess their accounting Dept. is just picking on me for some reason.
I don't get it. Why is everyone afraid to call PayPal? I have always found them prompt, courteous and helpful - their problem or mine.
