hey all, got some tiny little ae4s from a small uncleaned lot. i'm 90% sure this one is zeno based on the mongram, can't get a good picture...but looks like the type 4 monogram...so i'm thnking this is ric x 961.....just pieced that together from vcoins listings so not at all certain...please correct me if i'm wrong. i was somewhat surprised to see several for sale that don't look as good as this one! obverse terrible... reverse so so... this one is 10mm and 1 g and then there is this "thing".....any clue what this could be? if anyone knows, i may suspect you have some type of magical abilities. zeno? theodosius ii? leo? must be one of those guys. this one is 10mm and 0.9g
Most likely Valentinian III on the second one. Could theoretically be Majorian or Johannes, but they are much rarer.
You guys have more patience than I. I have tons of these little things, but can never stand trying to attribute them.
I do believe that the first one is Zeno, and your right in that most Zenos on sale aren't in as good condition as this one, its definitely something I would want for my late Roman collection. As for the second, the reverse vaguely looks like Victory Left, but no way to tell who the emperor is unfortunately.
Not having the coin in hand nor under a magnifier, I would agree with Zeno, but more probably on 9th monogram rather than 4th See here : http://www.forumancientcoins.com/numiswiki/view.asp?key=Monogram Q
you may be right Q, i'll have to go back and look with again....in the picture is does look more like a 9.
