I collect Duck objects, my daughter collects Elephants. I recently purchased a 2013 Somali Elephant at bullion prices for my World Silver collection. When I did some research I found that the 2004 was the first and key to the series(which I may or may not pursue at this time). I decided that the cost of the 2004 was more than I wanted to spend for my collection, but not too much for a great Christmas gift for my daughter. So, here is what I got. Do you think she will like it?
That's very nice. A few months ago I started a thread of elephant coins. I can dig it up for you if you didn't see it then.
Thats a cool coin. I like elephants too. Honestly nothing makes me madder then the poaching thats done to them and rhinos. My only coin with an elephant, historical.
Hope I don't start another trend. This series is really taking off. The back issues are getting pricey. My wife gets a new Koala every year, since 2007.
Well, dang!!! Love the idea of buying her that though! For your son I guess you'll have to find something with a fish
Yep. It is a nice elephant coin. Here are a couple of my most recent ancient elephant coins. The elephant with the plaid/waffle/cuirass pattern is on a Roman coin from A.D. 193-211. The elephant next to the large owl is on a Greek coin from 131-0 B.C. In this case, the elephant symble is like a mint mark.
When you mentioned elephant, I thought I'll be looking at Thai coins. Still very impressive. Here's some elephant coins from Thailand. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Thailand-/40717/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=elephant
There's one elephant coin I am aware of that I still want to get and that's the 1815 Ceylon 1 or 2 stiver. They always go for more than I want to spend though.
