As usual, I'm coming to this thread a tad late. And I can't think of anything to add except how jealous I am. I suspect it set you back a pretty penny, but, heck, it's so beautiful I guess it's worth all the grief you're gonna get from the missus. Oh wait. You didn't tell her, did you? You sly fox.

My gf thinks more coins = more money spent. So now I just buy 1 or 2 coins that are more expensive! Or multiples from the same dealer.

It is just a way for them to show they care about us and don't want us to flat broke with our hobby addiction. When they call you an idiot what they really mean is 'Cool purchase, I really love you'. You guys don't hear it that way too?

Now that you have such a nice example of the adult rider version, you might want to look for some of the other versions. Young rider, shield, waves cornucopia --- all options.

 

Wow => just when ya think you're ridin' high, you find out that your coin-buddy has "4" different versions of your one show pony!! (well played Doug, well played!!)



Oh, and although I would love to scamper-out and hunt down a few more of these types, I think it would be wise if I curled-up in the corner, licked my wallet-wounds and prepared myself for Christmas!!

 

Mine are four low quality versions which doubtlessly sold for less combined than your one excellent specimen. It is a choice we all make. I keep telling myself that I need to purge a thousand of my worst or most boring coins but who would want them? My bottom thousand would include nothing as good as my four dolphin riders while every coin in collection x6 is to be desired by almost all of us. It is a decision we all must make.

 

It's too bad you couldn't find a coin with better centering where the hand & spear doesn't run off the planchet.
