1962-D Full Bell Franklin.jpg Is it possible to have a pre-1965 Franklin half with the full bell designation ? There are no coin values listed prior to 1965 FB. Attached is 1962-D.

Franklin half dollars were issued from 1948-1963, which would make all of them pre-1965. Regardless, there is a vibrant collecting niche for coins designated as FBL and many printed guides and online sources listed prices for such coins. However, if you are looking at grades below AU I doubt there is any listing.

How many post 1965 Franklin halves have you seen with the designation? I am also curious as to which guide you are finding values listed for such dates.

Dave's been a CT member for over seven years... I hope by now he would realize the rarity of a '65 Franklin (which would include the elusive '64, FB or not). :) I think a "5" vs "3" typo is common in us older folk.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

    Or even a '64 Franklin.

OK: What does "full bell" mean?

I accept ridicule for ignorance easily, if information comes with it sufficient to dispel.

    Thanks...

Amazing...the things you can learn here. Thanks for the link, BB4C...I spent 25 minutes clicking back and forth between the pics and descriptions, and think I may have a clue.

I asked the question because I have a few rolls of halves from Dad's stash, and lotsa loose...and I've never hardly looked at them except when moving from one secure place to another.

Wonder what other nuanced arcana lurks among these old coins? Are there other, similar distinguishing criteria for quarters and dimes? Certainly, my guess is!

    Whooee!

Please disregard this post. Of course you are all right that the dates run from 1948 thru 1963. The OP was made by an old man who has apparently lost it. What I meant to say
was there any FB designation prior to MS65, which is the lowest grade that specifies a FB designation. Sooooooooooooo Sorry.

Thanks for trying to get me out of a jam Jim. Typo's for me seem to be becoming more frequent. I appreciate your aknowledgement about us older folks.

That's the beauty of being old Dave.... we have a built-in excuse for making mistakes. Also, we can say and do things (and get away with it) that younger people can't.

Hey, you don't know how many younger people like us can get away as well. :p

I know the FBL designation is added as low as 64, not sure about below that. I never really pay much attention to anything that low in the Franklin series.
