Funky "thing" on my 1883 n/c Liberty Nickel

    See that little "thing" on the neck of Liberty? Anyone care to guess what that might be? It's not incuse, so it's pmd (although the scratch to the right is obvious). I'm thinking foreign substance struck through or misplaced device (number, letter, partial star).
