Otto von Bayern Ring

I am researching a family heirloom. It's a wedding band type ring with an interior inscription: Otto Koenig von Bayern, Deutsches Reich 1908, Drei Mark. I know it's the same info on the same period coin but this is in the ring. Any Idea?

It is possible that a three mark coin was used to make the ring - there are videos on youtube on how to do it.
