went through box of $100..like usual.. i keep war nickles and any buffalos if i'm lucky enough, but tend to hold on to any before 1960..especially nice grade ones( few and far between).what do you think?
what should i be looking for besides OMM, DDO and DDR 2004 louisiana, or 1950 d's...? tryin to find out if i am overlooking something or starting to 'hoard' worthless nickels. thanks!!

Save all 2009's. In the past 6 months i've only found 2 of those.

I presently keep all pre-60's, wars, bufs, and 09's. The pre-60's are getting a bit out of control so I think I will just keep a roll of each date/mm. The 09's are tough. I have found fewer 09's than I have Bufs and wars.

OK--thanks. Yeah, I have also kept any 09's...forgot about it until you guys mentioned them--same with Dimes. i've found maybe one 09 per every 2 to 3 boxes of dimes. same with nickles...maybe one per 3 to 4 boxes of BWRs.
used to find at least one war nick per box of $100 , maybe even 2. but now have not come accross any in a few months.

Why 2009 nickels and dimes so scarce? i remember hearing or reading something about mint not pumping out as many that year, but i thought i saw mintage numbers and not that low.

Aside from the usual dates (39, 50-D, 42-D, Wartimes), I place a lot of emphasis on the varieties. I've found a couple 1939 Doubled Monticellos, 42-D/Horiz. D, 54-S/D, among other mint mark varieties. Definitely worth your time to buy yourself a good 10x loupe and look for these. You'll get a lot more satisfaction out of your nickel rolls.

thanks--yeah i am familiar with most varieties you mentioned, i myself have found a surprising amount of 39's but no doubling on reverese( as far as my semi-trained eye can detect). i do believe i had found a 55 d over s and also a d over d or doubled reverse 64 , along with some other dates in 40's and 50's that looked to be over mint marks or something. i put under a microscope to confirm, as my loupe is only so good. i do not have a 'cherry pickers' guide or much knowledge of any cited or 'named' errors/varieties. i mostly have tried to research online or from what was listed in red book. that is why i am asking, as it seems there are people with much more experience and knowledge on this site. i have to get better at taking pics ---not sure how to get the close ups with such detail as some i've seen on here---once i figure out how, i will try to post some i believe are worthwhile.

opened a roll of nickels...were these out of someone's collection??? grades look to be MS and AU...unless i am way off.these are WAY off the charts compared to any older jeffersons ive ever found. i did come across a 1913 buffalo of the same comparable grade last year...couldnt believe it.
