I picked up this coin yesterday, an Isabella quarter. My thought on grade is MS62, the dealer was raving about it as an MS64, I think he is wrong because of obverse chatter, light cleaning in the fields. Whether it will grade is an open question due to that. The reverse is a solid MS63 imo.
Very well struck aside from your notes. Hard to see the cleaning in this pic, but if it's there, it'll most certainly be an UNC-Details grade.
OK, thanks. Here are a few more pics. with my digital camera, but assigning grade may still be tough. Does this have a shot at an MS63 at least?
Much better pics than originally, although the luster still looks a bit dull/lifeless almost like someone over dipped the coin, although it could still be the pictures I suppose. I'd still get the coin certified even if it would garner details as it would make selling it a lot easier in the future as there are tons of fakes out there of this coin raw, EBay is loaded with them.
I agree on the details grade - it is a lovely piece but it doesn't appear to have the original mint bloom or lustre that should be present with such a piece.
It is always important to compare images from known certified coins: http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1188&lotNo=8834#Photo It can be difficult to see what is missing and should be there like the level of luster on the surfaces of a coin, while it is easy to see marks and other obvious issues on any given coin.
There's also big difference between the coin linked too and the one pictured. In the pictures of the MS 62 you can see the mint luster clearly. Whereas the coin in the thread appears flat and reflects the light like a coin that's been either lightly polished, over dipped or cleaned thus losing the cartwheel luster effect. If you were expecting it to grade MS or problem free I would return it. Any decent dealer should take a return and then I'd find an already certified problem free example if you really want a MS Isabella.
