Here is a decent 1880-S VAM 70 (DBL DATE). Perhaps I attributed it correctly. Anyone care to verify or trash my attribution? Thanks for looking Ben
Ben: Well, I guess that I have to get an updated VAM book, I only have the original one and it stops at VAM-36 for the 1880-s! Oops, gotta go buy a book. :goofer:
The date does look like the VAM 70. Do you have the polishing lines on the reverse (like the linked photos below)? My book ends with VAM 70 for the 1880-S, but the updates go to VAM 78 (and most of the new ones are doubled dates). I think there are as many new VAMs in the updates as there are in the VAM book. My 4th edition has 3000+ VAMs. I think there are over 5000 now. It's also the end of the year. I found a couple of new ones, but I know of one guy that has over 100 discoveries for this year alone!
nesvt: Wow! 100 discoveries?!? Well, good luck. For my self, if I am ever able to verify a new Overton # that would be great for me.
I think I found three this year, and I'm still excited about all of them!! This other guy is an expert. I think it's well over 100 and who knows how many in the last few years. I don't want to link to any auctions, but I know he sells quite a few discovery coins. If you search eBay for "Morgan" and "Discovery", you'll get an idea of the cool new varieties he's found.
