I came across two of these quarters in a roll the other day and I am hoping to get some feedback. There is doubling (that seems more than machine doubling) on the lettering. You can clearly see on the "F", "E" and "2" there is a doubling. On the 2016, there you can see the numbers are larger and slightly distorted from a regular coin. The "6" is more of an egg shape center and the tops is much wider. Is this a DDR or something else? Thanks
The second picture of the letters is true doubling IMO. Clear split serifs and characteristics of a doubled die.
There are several known errors on the 2016 Harpers Ferry Quarters, some involving doubling. The problem is, you haven’t described any of the known errors. I can see the doubling on your coin but I don’t believe it to be a doubled die. Welcome to CT.
Thank you for the information. What gets me is since these are incused, wouldn't the extra thickness of the letters be more of a DD then a MD?
Because the devices are incuse, any movement during the strike would cause them to get bigger. Doubled dies happen in the Hubing process, not during the striking process.
