A customer came in last night and when he was about to pay, I heard the unmistakable sound of silver clanking together. I looked up and saw the two halves in his hand. At first, I wasn't sure if they were 40% Ikes or pre-1970 JFKs as all I could see is that they were large coins. I took them and was shocked to find a 1952-P and a 1953-D Franklin half. They didn't even make it to the register, I sat them aside and bought them as soon as he left. I don't think they were stolen because the customer is a regular and is clean cut and doesn't look like a criminal at all. Before I saw these halves, I thought the Franklin design was ugly from the pictures that I had seen, but when I held these in my hand I realized how beautiful they are. Not a bad pickup for $1. They're in good shape for 60 year old silver coins. I also pulled a 1964 silver dime out of a roll. 3 silvers in one 8 hour shift isn't bad. I was ecstatic when I realized what they were and was in a good mood for the rest of the night. Apologies for the quickie phone pictures.
Nice pick up, findind some silver is always nice! Just a general question on which type of store do you work at? People do still use silver coins as payment at face value.
So all bearded men are robbers.... Hmm I have a lot of self pondering to do now to figure out who I really am
Not "clean cut" as in beardless (I used to have a goatee and still would have it if it weren't grey) but as in nicely dressed and classy looking.
That's a good bit of luck. Really though, anyone can be a criminal and you shouldn't make judgements on appearance. Ted Bundy presented well, until he didn't.... Sent from my SHV-E300K using Tapatalk 4
It is remarkable to me that someone would spend Franklin halves at face value. I can see some non-coin enthusiast spending a silver Roosevelt dime or Washington quarter but not a non-circulating coin series. Looks like someone dipped into a coin collection to me. Great finds for you though. Congrats! TC
My mom hit a rough patch when she was younger and told me she spent some of her own franklins that she was holding onto so she could buy a head of lettuce and bread to make sandwiches with. If you're desperate, money is money. Sent from my SHV-E300K using Tapatalk 4
A customer spent a '52-P Franklin half night before last. Three Franklins in exactly a month. I had no idea any of them were left in circulation.
And just yesterday I was explaining to coworker why he did not want to spend pre-1970 kennedy halves. Good find.
