This came from a lot of 100 coins I bought unseen. I have been told the denomination etc is facing outward or differently than normal. Any info appreciated.

Why does the F.M read backwards or am I missing something?

You have a great coin, 1 real from Mexico City Mint. The 1772 an 1773 1 real represent a 2 year type, the initials FM go back to normal alignment in 1774. This type carries a premium in value over the more common later dates.

I wouldn't imagine the grade is desirable though......no idea what it's worth, so will do some digging....PM if you like it. See what you mean now. Other examples on that well known auction site are in quite a lot worse condition than my example.

When you said "denomination" I thought you were talking about the 1 R, that is what I was referring to as being normal. But as noted, yes the F M is inverted and yes that is a variety.
