    Hey everyone!

Picked up this beauty of an Ike...probably the best condition I've ever seen one in...and, to boot, it's a DDO/DDR...wondering if it's worth sending in to get graded...so I'd like your opinions on grade. My Ike varieties book will get here soon...but until it arrives, maybe this will help with attribution.

DDO: doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBE, Eisenhower's eye
DDR: doubling on ONE DOLLAR, olive leaves under eagle, AMERICA, and stars from 2 pm to 9 pm. Die scratches on reverse from rim under O through first L of DOLLAR

And now, the photos! Yes, they're big. But it's such a pretty coin! This thing is dripping with luster...

I think it is worth sending in! I also think you should post that at the Ike group and get some of the experts opinion on it.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm currently awaiting moderator approval over there...

I was really surprised...by far the nicest I've pulled out of OGP...can't wait to find out if TPG will recognize whatever variety this is...

Yeah, I looked at NGC's Variety Plus listing and didn't see a DDO/DDR combination for the 1972 S Business Strike...I wonder if they would even put anything on the label?

I see the DDO, but I don't see any good close ups of the DDR. Enlarging the rev images didn't help.

If I remember correctly, they note anything that's in the redbook, coin prices, cherrypickers guide, plus what is on the list for variety plus...and I do not see a 1972 s ddo/ddr on that list (what's available to an unpaid member.)

Heh heh! That......... uh........... Lincoln is a well establish variety which has naked eye doubling while the 72-S IKE does not. As a matter of fact, "minor doubling" can be quite common of 1972-S Business Strike IKE's. Both Obverse and Reverse.
    Not all command premiums.

This is the guy to listen to when it comes to IKEs.

Are you saying this coin has minor doubling?

I personally would consider this coin to have die doubling that is somewhere between "minor" and "moderate". I mean, the place where you can see the doubling best is on the L of LIBERTY, but besides that, it just doesn't seem that noticeable.
Still a nice find, though. :)

I think we would all agree that it's nothing like a 1955 DDO Lincoln... :)

Of course, it's much more noticeable than some of the Kennedy DDO I've found that you can only see in a couple tiny spots...

Since my Ike Varieties book shipped today, I suppose I can attribute it myself when it arrives....I was hoping that an experienced Ike collector might be able to recognize it and point me in the right direction. I'm pretty new to the series, so just wanted to share and learn.

    Compared to a 72/72.........Yes.

Ok fair enough. So the question I have now then, which is what I was trying to get at, is would NGC put "DDO/DDR" on the label for this Ike? I'm not familiar with the Lincolns so I just happened to see that auction on eBay, saw how it was labeled, and figured it was on that label there so then they should in turn put it on his Ike without being aware of this Lincoln's variety.

I know I've seen Anacs slabs with minor/major DDO/DDR designations but they're more likely to attribute those things. Will NCG?

As far as I am aware from my submitting experience, PCGS and NGC will only recognize IKE varieties if they are listed in the CPG. ANACS is the only TPG which uses IDDD and Wexler ID's, in addition to CPG numbers to label IKEs. If you have a big variety, ex - FS 103, FS 106, then send it in to PCGS or NGC, but if you at least want it labeled with the exact variety that is not in the CPG, then send it to ANACS. Die hard collectors will know and recognize this if you ever go to sell your coin.

Also, I failed to answer the other question....I know PCGS will, but I am not sure how NGC will handle it, but PGCS will put on the label "minor DDO/DDR". I don't know what NGC would do. As I don't collect NGC IKEs, I am not familiar with their system.

It's still a clean looking Ike, regardless of the doubling. If you think it can pull a 67+ or 68, then go for PCGS. Make a note for your records that it's a DDO, but I doubt it will add anything monitarily.

I truly doubt that NGC or PCGS will label this
