I'll be setting up at Scott Griffin's Santa Clara Show this coming weekend. There's about 80+ dealers participating and Scott does a great job promoting this show! Anyone else going? Santa Clara Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Show At the Santa Clara Convention Center 5001 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, CA September 6, 2013: 10am-7pm September 7, 2013: 10am-6pm September 8, 2013: 10am-4pm http://griffincoin.com/page2.html if you make it to the show, be sure to stop by and say hi, and get your photo taken for my show report!
I'd love to, but Amtrak for some reason is nearly twice as high as it was the last time I went down to the convention center. I'm looking around for a carpool now.
I'm on the other side of the bay, may end up going, though I've got a bunch of college apps to do and schoolwork...we'll see.
That was one show I really enjoyed going to when I lived out there - lots and lots of room where they used to have it anyway. I hate shows where you are cooped up with a bunch of stinky and very obese unbathed males and narrow aisles.
If I was still living in Stockton I'd be going for sure, but we just had to move. I wish I could get a little vacation so I could drive up for the weekend, but such is life. I'd love to be back up in the bay area for a little while. Hope you have lots of fun.
I was at this show a few months ago... April or May I believe. There were far more dealers than visitors. It was good for visitors as it gave people time to talk to dealers and take their time looking at items. But I know a few large dealers who made the trip last time and they did not get much sales. A couple told me they won't be coming back this time around. The Santa Clara show definitely needs to be promoted hard to keep it alive. I'd go this weekend, if I wasn't moving that weekend. My schedule will be too hectic, sadly.
Where abouts are you coming from? My wife and I will be driving down from the Auburn area on Saturday morning.
Show was good, brought my girlfriend, went home with a $10 roosie and hundreds of dollars in vintage jewelry (great deals!). This is what happens when you bring your girlfriend to a coin show. Although I will admit for the coins I was going after, dealer prices were too high and barely negotiable. Some were just trying to dump problem coins. Many dealers treated me condescendingly. One dealer had the nerve to raise the price by 50% AFTER we had agreed on a price. Sorry dealers, you're not going to get any of my money this way! Play your games all you want, but the wallet stays shut. Many were friendly though, just felt like I was swimming in a shark tank. Perhaps I was searching for the wrong coins. Perhaps I should have come alone. Overall I enjoyed the show, good inventory, lighting, and decent sandwiches
Aaack!! I never went back and looked at this thread till today. I'm in Sacramento. Hope you had a great time at the show.
