I picked up this AE20 from Pergamon, Mysia as you see it. Now I am debating whether it is worthwhile to try to clean it further or not. The encrustation you see is quite hard. I would appreciate your opinions. AE20 of Pergamon OBV: Bust of Athena right wearing triple crested helmet REV: AQHNAS NIKHFOPOY, trophy of armor, PERG monogram to lower right Struck 133-27 BC 4.11g, 20mm SNG France 1880-2
Wow => super lookin' coin!! ... I love coins with a wee bit of character-junk on 'em ... => either way, that coin is a great, tough-lookin' coin (nice pick-up)
I would agree with others. Honestly, a coin like this will be worst off 90+% of the time. I know, I have cleaned a few like this. Best case you lose some highlighting, making it a more boring coin. Worst case, there is stuff under the dirt you wish you never uncovered.
Bing, Nice coin. I would leave it as is. As others have stated the deposits accentuate the details nicely.
Thanks for all the coin compliments and for your opinions on cleaning. I think I was inclined to leave it as is, so, with that same input, I will leave it alone. It makes a nice addition to my collection even if it's not a RR.
