Hi. I have an 1879-S 2 1/2 dollar gold coin, liberty bust, that I am trying to figure out values on. I wish to sell it, but I first need some clue on the grade, since the price varies so wildly with each grade :/ Here are some pictures I snapped...?
Hmm... no, looked it over, and still not seeing it on my coin :/ There is no "crud" in the corners, all I see are all the marks from the way the coin was mishandled - lots of tiny scratches and dents in the blown up picture. The previous owner did not take care of it, really, and I think it was just in with other coins for a long while. Either way, I was asking value? Can I please get some opinions on that? Thanks.
Ok, thanks. Mildly disappointed - I also have a 1928-D PCGS-slabbed walking liberty quarter in MS-64, and I was hoping to get $1000 or so for the pair of them :/ But maybe I can still swing at least $800.
The Standing Liberty quarter should bring about $250. Going back to the cleaning of the gold piece. It's not always easy to say why you feel a coin is cleaned. Many times it's just that the coin does not have a normal look. Over the years, one learns what is normal. Add to that all the different types of cleaning and it can be tough to put into words.
*taken aback* 250? It lists at close to 400, and I paid 425 (overpaid a bit) on ebay to outbid the other 2 who wanted it just a year ago :/
http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/us-coin-price-history.aspx?c=15768&g=64 here they show it at a solid 350, at least, which is 100 more than you mentioned :/ I cannot seem to find a reference showing it at 400 or so a year ago, but I saw one, which was why I paid what I did to beat out the other bidders. Lol.
