This sweet lady walked into the shop this morning. I was happy to be the new custodian of this piece. This coin has a mintage of 575 pieces.
If I owned a shop and that coin "walked into the shop," it would end up in my collection and not a display case. WOW - very nice coin. That said - I guess when it comes time to pay the bills though, you have to separate yourself from the idea of keeping every beautiful coin that walks in. Nice to at least hold it and enjoy the view!
I take pride in being able to offer my customers coins like this... That is where I receive the most enjoyment. I feel kind of like a foster home... I want these to go to people who will love them.
Nice coin Dutchman! Just stunning. Those Proof Barber Halves are something else aren't they? One of my favorite US coins are the Proof Barber Halves. Some of them toned in spectacular fashion. Here's a prime example that happens to be up for sale on the Bay right now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1898-50c-PC...54?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2c70920f2a
The grading seems a bit spot on with older standards of grading - a very attractive piece with nice clean fields. Even I could like that Barber.
