he claims that the altered or damaged 1888, is a 188 with 8 over 7, so he is valuing the coin at $1500ish and its a ruined 3$ coin.

I sent him a message in case he didn't realize he was misrepresenting the coin before i report him.

Here is an example of the real coin in the attachments, i just wanted to share this because its a great example of if you make an uneducated purchase you can lose thousands!

yup that's why i figured id make a thread to at least warn some people, sometimes on bigger items ebay does act, but sometimes they dont

Just another joker peddling dreck. If these are the type of listings you report, you must be one busy fella. :)

I do not see them removing the listing. As it stands it is just over priced. He included the question so that is about all you can ask for. Plus - he does like all caps for typing.

i sent this after the first message...

    Dear jack417rott,

Im not attacking anyone but before you make claims is your due diligence as a seller to research the claims you make, i sent you a link to view a real coin and you can clearly see the 7 under the 8 not just a line in the loop of the 8.... plus the line in the loop of the 8 is not risen but indented, any grading company would do, i prefer NGC, and i did view your feedback and other listings that's why i sent you a message because i was pretty certain you where not intentionally ripping off a numismatic collector, if i thought you where a scam artist i wouldn't have even contacted you but im just warning you whoever buys this if they send it to be graded or looked at by a professional or even a knowledgeable numismatic collector you can clearly see the coin is not the 188 8 over 7 verity. i wasn't trying to sound threatening im just making you aware you are misrepresenting the coin,(and 2700$ is a lot to misrepresent) and it is for sure the wrong coin, i posted your ebay ad for this auction on a coin forum , I had to post it on the forums so no one makes a huge mistake, its your duty to learn what your claiming and if you don't know, then don't say it,,,, someone might easily pay your asking price but they shouldn't be thinking they are getting something they are not its still a beautiful set and the 1909s is SPLENDID I am just looking out for my fellow collectors and trying to give you the benefit of the doubt maybe you should unlist the item until you get the coin looked at by a professional.

    Dear dennis*****l,

I GO BY MY REDBOOK AND APPARENTLY, VARIETIES EXSIST. I APPRECIATE THAT YOU HAVE TALKED IT OVER WITH KNOWLEDGABLE OTHER MEMBERS. HOW DO I GO ABOUT VERIFING THIS COIN? CAN YOU SEND ME PICTURES WHICH INDICATE MACHING? I WOULD APPRECIATE HELP--MY CAMERA IS LIMITED. JACK

    """"""""

I sent him the link to the site to see the pictures and it explains the coin 3 times im done wasting my time with him just figured id try. told him to join the forum and post the coin and you guys would help id it as well.... but of course he wont actually remove the listing

same here, but the ones I bother reporting are more obvious, like basement slabs being listed as PCGS/NGC and even sometimes listing CAC when the coin is none of these things. I'm not sure any reporting I've submitted has ever resulted in an auction being pulled. #lame

ebay doesn't care what you sell, as long as you put what it is, even fake coins, thats up to you ! I sold a 2009 zachary taylor graded by pcgs, which came back at ms-67, which at the time was the best ever found, at least for the time I sold it ! I price it at 5,500.00 dollars, and sold it for 5.000.00 dollars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, they care all right, especially when it comes to selling fakes or unmarked replicas. However, when eBay removed the "replica" category a few years back, they opened up a can of worms. Now the fakes are listed with the genuine coins, and lost within the multitude of auction pages. Most obvious fakes are reported and removed... but non-errors and non-varieties listed as such have proven to be a much more difficult task.

It's interesting that he doesn't show pictures of the 1877, and I don't like the mintmark on the 09 S.

Hard to read, but it specifically says no 1877. After the first couple of coins I could see it was way overpriced and did not check out the 09-S. Figured most of them were cleaned.

But still don't see enough to get it pulled.
