Hey everybody, Recently bought this 1876-S Seated Liberty Quarter. Unfortunately the obverse appears to have taken a light cleaning long ago, which was not visible in the seller's picture because it was taken through a 2x2. But that's beside the point, what drew me to the coin was the drastic die crack through the denomination on the reverse. Its taken out the parts of the letters beneath the crack. What do you think? Also has this been documented in a die variety book. If it has I would appreciate the attribution, I've yet to get a book on Seated Quarters or really do any research into Seated Liberty coins at all, so I may take a look and try to get more familiar with the series. Thanks Jesse
If you would like to get familiar with the quarters, try The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters by Larry Briggs. Also, here is a website for the entire Seated series and they have a message board as well. http://www.lsccweb.org/
Thanks for link. I was actually looking at the book and it seems to be priced very fairly. What does it include. Is it an attribution guide, date by date analysis, etc?
Cool die crack. Never heard of any "rare" die varieties for that date, but then again I am not too familiar with Seated Quarter die varieties. Hope it's a big one! Keep us informed.
