What coins would you add to your 1946-2006 complete Roosevelt collection other than the P's, D's, and S's to consider it complete? The 1996-W and the 1992-2006 silvers are a given. Anything else the essential collection should also have? Type II's ? When would you stop?
I filled a Dansco-without-proofs with Roosevelts, I am only missing 2006-P, which I will eventually run across in change. Then I will stop. I realize I don't sound very enthusiastic, but I like Roosevelts, really I do.
There have been several missing mint mark errors over the years, particularly on proof issues. There are also the special mint set coins from 1965-1967, and the special finish dimes from the 2005 uncirculated set to consider. Also, the extremely rare wrong planchet errors from the switchover to clad from silver would be highly collectable coins, in my opinion.
Dansco album 7125 has no hole for the 1996-W. There should be a spot for it. I called Dansco about it, and they could care less.
Niether do the Whitman classic albums. I plan to put one blank page in at the end for the 1996-W, the 1992-2006 silver dimes and anything else I think needs to be included like the 1982 no P.
I cut a 2x2 page the same size as the dansco page and put it in the back of the album that gives me 12 more places to put coins in 2x2 .
I like all the coins mentioned but would add some of my favorite varieties as well. The '68 DDO leaps to mind. This one is pretty easy and accounts for more than 2% of '68 mint sets.
In trying to complete my three sets of Roosevelts I came across an ebay auction that was for proof only 1968-s to 2006-s including all the 1992 to 2006 silver "S" coins. A total of 56 coins. I added up the cost of buying them individually and came up with 231.00 dollars. I got them for much less and completed my second set including both type II's and all the silvers. I'm not going to worry about the 1982 no mint mark but maybe some day....:eat:
The cool thing about collecting is YOU get to decide what makes your collection "complete". For me, it's simply the circulating examples of the P,D, and S dates. Your mileage may vary...Mike
That's a very good point Mike. I usually just collect the P, D, and S mint marks but this silver S addition in 1992 has me wondering if it should be P, D, S, and silver S from now on. Now would be the cheapest time to collect them after all. I'm not too big into type II's and oddball error types but the silver S series is just too tempting.
Just collect what you want. I have a complete collection (including the 1992+ silver proofs) except for the 1982 and 1983 P and D's which I am still roll searching for good examples. After I finish I will get on with the Mercs.
