I finally got around to using some of the 2x2 cardboard holders. The reason I mainly ordered from them is because there holder said:
Well for me, that was as far from the truth as one could get.

About 80% of the holders were literally coated with paper chaff from the manufacturing process. In fact, it was so bad, I had to sit there with a polish cloth and wipe the many paper particles off each side of the viewing window.

Left on there, they stuck to the coin and made presentation rather ugly.

Maybe I got a bad run, has anyone else ordered 2x2s from them?

    From Merriam Webster:

    virtually:
    1 : almost entirely : nearly
2 : for all practical purposes

Virtually dust free does not come anywhere close to meaning absolutely dust free.

The last batch of flips I got from ebay were virtually dust free.

So are the ones you have now. Virtually is not a constant.

I've ordered from Collectons before. They have cheap products, but overpriced shipping. Even with the overpriced shipping, they come out a dollar or two cheaper than the competition. Never had a problem with them.

If you already had a source for acceptable "virtually dust free" flips, could it be that the real reason you "mainly ordered from them" was actually cost?

Nothing in life is perfect, Tim, and so what if you had to spend a few precious moments making sure no dust was on the mylar. No matter the brand, this is probably something you should at least check for anyways.

I typically jump on the Tim bashing bandwagon, but maybe his thought process was more along the lines of this:

Well these say they are virtually dust-free, and the others didnt, so maybe they will be even better than what I used before. Oh and hey, they are cheaper too, ill give em a try.

I've never heard of Collectons advertising anything as "virtually dust free" for holders. Unless it was something like "use these to keep your coins virtually dust free," which isn't the same as saying "virtually dust free" holders.

Also, from what I recall, Collectons sells their flips in sheets that are pre-packaged/sealed by the manufacturer. They don't distribute their own flips, to my recollection.

How is asking a simple question and pointing out the obvious "Tim bashing"? Do tell.

I quickly looked at their website and could find no such claims in writing or product photos, but I could have missed something.

Sure enough, but was this really what convinced you to purchase, or was it price? There is no shame in trying to save a few bucks.

If you are going to use cardboard flips, this is something you are going to have to live with. Yes... some are worse than others, but when going cheap, this should be expected.

    Not only that, but price.

Here is why it's a pain...

    1. If the flip itself has dust on it, you have to carefully wipe it off. For some odd reason, the dust scratches the flip.

    2. If the dust (and by dust, I mean paper dust, not regular house dust) sticks to the coin, you must carefully remove it. This is very tedious for a proof coin.

    3. The dust sticks to your fingers, it can transfer to the coin.

    4. Some of the flips had white dots in them that would not come off, like some sort of error in the plastic making process.

    5. Some of the flips were so dusty, that when you stapled them, a visible cloud of dust would fly out.

    6. Said dust floats in the air and lands on future coins waiting to go into flips.

So it does not sound like a big deal, but believe me, it is.

Spend 5 bucks and get some more of the ones that you used before and quit complaining all the time.
