I haven't seen one like this before. With my luck it's machine doubling. There is something going on between Lincolns lip, and nose. Obvious doubling on the date and GOD. 2009date1.jpg 2009date1.jpg 2009date3.jpg 2009date4.jpg 2009OD.jpg

Mechanical doubling and lighting issues giving the appearance of a doubled die.

Die deterioration doubling. Essentially, the coin was struck with well-used dies.

I agree it is not a doubled die. I don't agree with deterioration , but suspect it is the shearing type of MDD that gives it the distinctive MD that is not strictly sideways producing a flattened doubling effect, but a sloped MD effect,

I have one exactly the same with the vertical bar inside the b in liberty.

I think it is for the most part lighting and plating. The one I have If I tilt the camera one way it's doubled on one side and tilting it the other shifts the doubling to the other. What about that seperation line in the center log that fat 9?

Sounds like a die clash. Are the vertical lines apx the same width as the pillars of the Memorial on the reverse?

I think you forgot that they stopped using the memorial reverse in 2009...

The OP didn't mention the date of the coin. I assumed it's pre-2009.

tomfiggy, what is the date of the coin you're seeing vertical lines through "LIBERTY" on?

He did say "I have one exactly the same"...but hopefully he can clear up as to the specific date of the coin he mentions.

    The attached pic shows 2009. I don't think it's a doubled die.
