I have this 1943 ms-67 quarter and it just doesn't have the luster I would like... Would a "professional" cleaning help? If so, is there a place well known for excellent work?
in order for the coin to be cleaned that would mean unslabbing it, that would remove the grading of the coin as well, then once you get it "cleaned" if you get it regraded it would be graded as cleaned thus losing value, so in my opinion I would leave the coin the way it is and enjoy what it is and how it looks, its a beautiful coin, any kind of cleaning "professional" or not would lower its value in my opinion!
What about re-slabbing? I think it will better the appearance to my liking.... Can I just have it re-slabbed without re-grading?
Bingo! Otherwise, theoretically your coin could be sent in to NGC's sister company "NCS" who does numismatic conservation including dipping, and if I'm not mistaken, that should keep it free of a details holder. It would get your luster back, BUT the cost FAR outweighs the benefit. I'd sell it and buy another one. Edit to add http://www.ncscoin.com/
Don't waste your money sending that coin to NCS. Some coins they can help, some coins they can't help. Yours is one of the latter.
Not worth the fees and there is always the risk of the coin coming back at a lower grade. It's a nice coin just the way it is.
From what my coin dealer told me... multiple times, he says NEVER CLEAN YOUR COINS. (he is kind of mean but whatever he is nice at heart) i would just sell that one and use that money to buy a shiny one like you want.
This is general advice commonly given to novices so that they will not damage their coins, but do understand that there are different "types" of cleaning, so until/unless one knows what they're doing, this dealer's advice is sound.
