I got this coin today in the mail. It's an 1882-H farthing. This coin grades at XF. Maybe even Au. (What do you grade it?) Checking the NGC price guide....$70!! In VF, $12. I paid $7.50 with postage. That's what others in this grade bring. So if they (NGC) jack the prices up, I wonder if that will make the prices go up on the market? Anyway, heres the coin.
I think you are paying more realistic prices - price guides need to be taken with a grain of salt. Conversely I can opin that I have several coins and banknotes worth multiples of the price guides - the proof is what they actually sell for.
To find out what you should REALLY expect for a coin sale, just check sold listings on ebay. Those are ACTUAL PRICES people have paid for your coin, they are not a "guide", they are raw data. As to the grade of your coin, I'm no good at grading coins (especially foreign) but it has way too much wear for an AU. I'd say VF35-XF-45.
I agree too. Especially on those Peruvian llama coins, they usually sell for 30x-50x the catalog values. I see some for 5 or 10 cents selling on ebay for $4 each!
