Is this real? 1993 cent... with no 3?

    I just pulled this out of a roll. You can see a very, very light shadow of a three when the light hits it just right. I don't see any sort of grinding, or marks like that.

    Any ideas?

    Possibly struck through grease. These types of errors are fairly common.

    looks like the number 3 on the coin die was almost completely filled in when it struck this coin.

    They were afraid if they made any more of those with the SW tail folks might get wise to the trick they pulled in 43 :)

    JSYK, if it WAS a rare error, I don't think you'd want to hold the coin like that as i'd leave fingerprints. Hold it by the edges.

    True, true.

    (I'm actually not too terribly concerned about the value at this point, I'm just trying to build a collection of coins for my son that we can go through as he grows up, maybe build on together. I'm looking for anything odd, or nifty)
