Cant decide on this. Obverse is questionable and reverse looks natural??? http://cgi.ebay.com/1916-D-Barber-Q...1QQihZ014QQcategoryZ11965QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Aber: Inspite of the fact that it is an NNC slab, I think that the toning is legit, the grade we all know, is questionable. Of course, it it isn't AT, that is not a credit to NNC, it is probably a mistake on their part, or the owners would have sent it a real company.
After looking at it CLOSE for a while, I would have to say it is AT, not to mention WAY over graded. Notice the toning. Look at the scratches on the obverse. It looks like they are just over the worst areas. Just IMO. I actaully cracked open slabs by nnc and sent them to pcgs and one of the ones i thought had real tonning turned ot in PCGS opioion to be AT. So needless to say I just stay away from any NNC slabs all together when it comes to anything they slabbed that is toned. It could have been just the once, but you know, why chance it again.
Looks NT to me. I've got a Franklin which virtually has the same toning. Take Care & Merry Christmas Ben
I agree with Nathan, I think the coin has been harshly cleaned and re-toned in an effort to cover up the damage from the cleaning.
It's difficult to tell from the pictures, but I think I can see some hairlines around the date on the obverse. The toning has a potentially natural look to it, but I personally think it was retoned to hide some hairlines.
I agree with both Nathan and GDJMSP, although I'm more sure about the former (cleaning/hairlines) than the latter (nature of the toning; AT/NT). In any event, this is a coin I would pass on....Mike
