I don't see any way in the world that coin could make into a regular slab. It has what looks like 4 test cuts, 2 rather deep, a bad rim ding, and a serious planchet flaw.

Now none of that takes away from the scarcity of the coin, but it definitely renders it ungradeable. That is more than likely why it's not in a slab.

The coin was bought with the notion that it will most likely not holder problem free for the problems Doug has mentioned. I will however be sending it in to NGC.

When did they start minting US coins in India ?
doesn't surprise me,, probably a tax benefit of some type.

You can't really compare those together...it's honestly night and day between those two. The date looks horrible on the counterfeit one, and LIBERTY is raised rather than incuse in the fake.

It looks original too me , nice pick up . Even if it had an old cleaning , how many coins that old haven't , plus it has re-toned nicely if it had .

Hopefully Matt got my message on it. :)

The coin looks real, but the 1,200 mintage figure is fantasy. A more accurate number is likely around 25,000 in my opinion and the reasons for this are presented in the new Reeded Edge half dollar book that Dick Graham and I sold last year.

While there may be an abundance of fakes, Tim. This coin is clearly real. Look at the devices on the coin you posted and then look at Matt's. Look at the quality of the lettering. On yours it's not up to snuff and when you look at the OP coin, the letters and devices are well done and precise. You can see how different yours is in contrast.

    It's real.

This coin is most definitely real... I was going to send it in to NGC but after we got back a good customer was looking through our NEWPS and ended up taking it home with him. So sadly... Unless he decides to send it in... I'll never know what they call it.
