"200K" = 200.000 coins = $2000 even if all Cu cents. But wouldn't that weigh 1370 pounds? larger denominations make it even worse, but eventually he needs a bank vault, not a safety deposit box :)

26.73 = total weight in grams morgan

    right now 18 x face

    20 pounds = 339 coins = $6109 melt. If all silver.

He might actually be able to give you a mix of meltish coins worth say $5,000 or less, make a cool $10K and not run afowl of ebay, depending on how they interpret his 2 statements: "Grade will be Fair to Gem"

and "Coin grades and value are subjective and are listings opinion and approximations (but we are conservative)" <-- that 'claim' he makes on the disclaimer makes me thing they better be at least fair.

It also seems he claims "100+ year old coins" i.e. they all better be pre 1913.

Even if it was an equal weight mix of 1,5,10,25,50 &$1, the question is could you average about 40 times face on fair coins after realizing maybe $4K in melt?

Are 100 YO fair coins worth that? If so, and this is true .... Hmmmm... If not, you have to hope for valuable key dates and conditions, but how many wonderful coins would you need to beat the $15K?

    Nevadabell A picture of me.

You do realize that he said he also had 2-cent and 3-cent pieces. So he had more values. Heck, he even said he had a trade dollar.

They are all harshly cleaned coins guys and gals. Not even collectable.

This guy might actually be dumb enough to be giving away free money if his math skills are this bad:

His big listing: "200,000 unsearched LOOSE US coin TYPE collection Guaranteed silver dollars
Make $350k if you sell every coin for Just $2.00"

    goes for $175K. Say what?

Maybe they are just freshly minted :)

What is the max possible grade on a harshly cleaned coin?

Uncollectable IMHO. A TPG would tomb them in Genuine not gradable - they are damaged.

So then this really is a melt auction.

Seriously adding to what NK is saying - Carp is an appropriate word, particularly since fishy is in the title of the thread.

    Sorry, bad pun.

The ebayer doesn't seem to have any listings anymore. Perhaps they found out he was a scammer, or maybe he was legit but his account was hijacked? I have seen that before.
