Just thought some of you Morgan collectors would like to know........ http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewarticle.aspx?IDArticle=3527&NGC-Guarantee Chris
I assume this is in response to PCGS's decision to grade GSA coins in the holder. What this makes me wonder, however, is: What was NGC worried about before that has changed? If they felt the seals could be tampered with, how has that changed with a retroactive application? If they felt the grades might be off due to the encasement, how has that changed? I would love to know what NGC's actual position is/was. If it's just to match up with PCGS, that's one thing, but if their reasons for not guaranteeing the grades before were legitimately grounded, I really can't see what would have happened that would change that retroactively.
More than anything, they probably did it in a bid to take more market share back away from PCGS. An advertising gimmick in other words.
Got to see some of the new pcgs GSA holders at the Ana this week. The literally slabbed the slab. We were all laughing wondering what would be next.
i am telling you we need to make some real money. what is so wrong about my brilliant idea of unseen releases? all we need to do is come up with a star shaped sticker and some finance. we could call ourselves JVGS if you want BTW grandpa should come and enlighten us on how anyone can accurately grade a coin that is covered by plastic
:Offtopic: Spock, Gramdpa doesn't seem to be interacting with you. :Offtopic: This seems like a wise busisness move.
well he is holed up in the boardroom plotting most of the time but no he reads every single word i say first thing when he logs in too
Why are some folks flipping out about grading GSA Morgans? A lot of people want their CC dollars graded, and also want to keep them in the GSA holder, as they are more collectible. So, both TPGs are doing something sensible IMHO, as a Morgan Collector.
I think that preserving GSA Morgan $1s is a great idea. Back in "the before times", PCGS would strip a coin out of its case, and put it in a normal holder like every other CC dollar, except that it says "From GSA Hoard" or something like that.
Yeah, I remember that. Thing is, a lot of nice GSA Morgans in the original box and with certificate can sell for more than equivalent slabbed dates with no original packing. So, for me, the NGC solution was the best alternative, as one keeps the packaging, and has a graded and authenticated coin. Extending the guarantee is a wonderful idea IMHO.
