Does anyone know of a good reference book or books regarding toning? I've heard of the "Coin Chemistry" book (forgot the author) -- is that one good?
Yeah, Jody, that's the one I was thinking of. If anyone on the forum has it or has read it, let me know what you think (good, bad, waste of time, etc.). Thanks!
I can't recommend a book on the subject - what I've learned about toning I've learned from experience. But I can suggest a good place to start Toned Coins
toning I have heard that wrapping a silver coin in burlap can over time produce interesting toning effects. I am trying to achieve some rainbow toning on some Morgans. I'm told that the chemicals in the burlap interact with the silver and can produce interesting effects. Sadly, Burlap does nothing for Women
GDJMSP - nice website i like pictures!! It is hard for beginners such as myself to understand what warrants what rating let alone adding tones into the mix. The examples give me some perspective. I have quite a few toned quarters, in the beginning they looked like garbage but i have grown to think that it gives them some character allowing them to stand out from the rest. They may not be prefect tones like some of the ones i have seen in some recent posts, but nice none the less.
